Important African Heritage Artist brings her internationally recognized art to the barter membership! My art is greatly influenced by my life as a woman growing up in Africa and my deeply rooted African Heritage. Everything I do is an African idea. I see hope and strength in everything and feel that through my art I am able to express my desire for equality in diversity.
My interest in women and women’s issues stems from wanting to push beyond the injustice of existing boundaries. This is a push for freedom to fulfill life’s dreams regardless of perceived limitations. In my native Guinea, art has traditionally been the exclusive domain of men, while women are left to mind the household and raise children.
Through my art, I hope to encourage women, in particular African women, to become interested in painting as a means of expression. African women are not encouraged to develop their artistic talents, so that they too may put forth their own interpretation of the world. It is my view that art is one of the finest educational tools for achieving this end.
My paintings are works that will hopefully inspire people to stand up for themselves and encourage them to express themselves in the literary or visual arts, so that they may achieve true self-expression.
Through my work, I also wish to honour all for the love that they share with all of humanity.
I believe that all artists are both story-tellers and interpreters of culture. They are individuals that share their cultural heritage with others. Words alone cannot explain the process by which an artist creates. It is only through shapes and colour that we can truly enter the artist’s inner universe.
My artistic style has been influenced from my earliest days in Guinea
when I would assist my older sister in producing dyed and batik
fabrics. This has led to a “patchwork” art form that is expressed in
many of my works. At times I use actual family documents, patchwork
effects of dyed fabrics and other images.please communicate by phone!
