In 1974, at the ripe age 13, John "Crash" Matos started his career spray painting NYC subway trains and old buildings in a graffitiesque manner. By the 80's, he had " gone straight " with gallery and museum exhibits throughout the United States and abroad. He spray painted a guitar for Eric Clapton which sold at auction for over $300,000. This earned him a commission from the FENDER guitar company to paint hundreds more. His main body of work is spray painted acrylic on canvas in bright colors, often incorporating iconic cartoon characters, and a partial eye. Crash art brings joy to your wall, but make no mistake about it, he is one of our greatest contemporary artists.
